Opinion on "Sales of CCTV cameras, alarms jump More residents fear crime, loan sharks during tough times"
In my opinion, I think that CCTV cameras are not necessary for residents who do not have infants or elderly with maids alone at home. As Singapore is a small country, cases of burglary can be solved with the efficiency of our police force. Moreover, prices of such devices are costly, and average income families will not be able to afford them. However, CCTV cameras in commercial buildings and offices are needed for security purposes. Companies can afford the cost of CCTV cameras.
Installing cameras are useful in the sense that they can capture the images of the criminals that commit a robbery in a shop, or on the streets. But of course, if the criminals' faces are covered with masks, or if the cameras are faulty, then there will still be difficulties in nabbing the criminals. And even if there are cameras, there will still be some corners where the cameras cannot capture, and crimes can still be committed in those areas. However I believe that the amount of crimes will be reduced
Shao Wei said... In any country, an economic downturn results in a loss of jobs nation-wide and thus a decrease in income. People get so desperate that they resort to methods such as stealing in order to feed their families which in turn lead to an increase in crimes following the onslaught of the recession. To tackle this social problem, SIngapore should step up on CCT surveillance, along with other measures to soften the financial blow on families so that people will be disinclined to commit such crimes.
CCTV surveillance is essential as it helps reduce the risks of various crimes like shoplifting and theft. Thats why many small convenience shops and shopping malls install CCTV as the people owning them can't afford to have people committing thefts and getting away with it. However, CCTV cameras are not 100% perfect as they may malfunction or be unable to capture a person's face fully.
I strongly agree that such methods to decrease the amount of crimes in a city is useful. This CCT surveillance serves as a deterrence so that those with the intention to steal or commit any crimes would hesitate or not even do so. As the saying goes 'prevention is better than cure', such preventive measures can decrease the amount of crimes committed. Shops in Singapore also installed CCT surveillance cameras to step up the safety in the shops.
However, there are some disadvantages to installing such surveillance cameras. For example, some CCT surveillance cameras may be installed in such a way that some parts of the place may not be seen through the camera. Some of the CCT surveillance in old shops may be unclear and some may not even help in the investigation when there is a crime as it is not able to capture the criminal's image.
In my opinion, i think that Singapore police should step up on CCT surveillance so to prevent further crimes to be committed. However, economic downturn is not caused by crimes but the amount of jobs made available to everyone. Thus, those people who do not have any jobs will resort to stealing and robbery. With CCT surveillance set up, those people who steal things due to economic downturn will have a second thought before doing so. The number of crimes occurring in Singapore will also decrease as the criminals will have a high chance to being caught easily.
I feel that there is nothing wrong with installing such CCT surveillance. It does not invade my privacy and i am even happier that such cameras are installed as it is for the safety of everyone and myself. Our safety is more important than our privacy as the people watching us closely are the police and not any other people. The police will only watch out for those people who look suspicious.
I agree with terry that Singapore have to step up on CCT surveillance. The phrase "low crime doesn't mean no crime" can actually explain this. Although Singapore has very low crime rates, and the police also have very good method and technology to nab the criminals, but we can further improve it by installing cameras and the police can identify the criminal by just looking through the video, instead of asking the victim to describe the face of the criminal. The video recording can also be used as evidence in the court when the hearing starts. And thus, like what terry said, the criminals will have a second thought to doing crimes and they will know that there is no way of escaping if there is a camera there.
What are the advantages of CCT surveillance? The CCT surveillance can observe people in the streets 24 hours a day. It also can help decrease the crime in a city and help the police to nab the criminal easily. The neighbourhoood will also be safe and secured for the residents and the residents will not be afraid of criminals breaking the law as they are under the careful watch of the CCT surveillance. Thus, criminals will hesitate before breaking the law.
The primary uses for CCTV systems are surveillance, traffic control; identification, to prevent theft, shoplifting and employee theft. In traffic control, CCTV can help by capturing the license plate of the speeding driver and to prevent accident from happening. CCTV is installed in bank, shopping mall, shops to prevent theft or robbery to happen in their shops to prevent loss of items or cash. CCTV were also installed in public buses, train and other common places in order to prevent terrorism striking Singapore and to ensure the safety of the locals.
I agree with Andrew that CCT surveillance can help reduce the risks of crimes in Sinagapore. Public places like shopping centres, offices and commercial buildings may step up on their security. However I feel that the idea of observing people in the streets 24 hours a day is blown out of proportion. We have police patrols in the neighbourhood and police posts are located conveniently in each estate.
I think that installing CCTVs in Singapore is a rather good yet bad idea. Good because it help improves the security in Singapore, as we could not expect the police to be patrolling everywhere and everytime. So, when CCTVs are installed, it means that the police force would not be so busy. And it also helps in places where there are more elderly, because when one elderly gets rob, we could not expect a elderly to chase after the person. And with CCTVs, it will be easier to track down the robber.
But it is bad, because there is a huge intrusion of privacy. Who likes to get watch wherever they go, and every single action is observed by someone. So, when CCTVs are installed, people might get disturbed as people do not like to be watched. So, installing CCTVs have both Pros and Cons.
Yes, Singapore should step up on installing CCTV surveillance.
There has been an increase in the number of crimes during the past 2 years. Most crimes were mainly related to loan sharks, Gang fights in back alleys, and burglaries and many more.
CCTV surveillance cameras have been a great help to the police force in other countries. Therefore, they serve a very good purpose in catching criminals, not allowing them to get away scot-free. Though these cameras are not cheap, which might cost between $1,000 and more than $100,000. They are good investments to keep watch of our valuables that might cost more than the cameras installed. Although CCTV surveillance can be found in most shopping malls, however, the cameras are insufficient to view every activities that are happening in the mall. Secondly, Singapore should step up on installing cameras in coffee shops and busy streets, not only in shopping malls. When there is an increase of CCTV cameras, people will think twice before committing a crime. Therefore, we can conclude that stepping up on CCTV surveillance has its strengths and Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance.
There are many advantages installing CCTV surveillance. CCTV surveillance can provides the police with evidence that would not be available otherwise. With the constant video monitoring of the streets, the police have access to detailed evidence of any suspicious or criminal activity. It is proven that people are less likely to commit a crime if they know that they are being watched. If the people are aware of the fact that the streets are being monitored, robbery and other criminal activities may be greatly reduced. CCTV surveillance also instills a sense of security for the citizens as they know that they are being monitored on a daily basis. Police officers are being informed immediately once they spot a criminal activity occurring on the streets and the police officers are able to control the situation better.
I agree with Kenneth that CCTV has pros and cons. Mostly, the advantages are the increased security, as the police cannot possibly be combing the whole of Singapore around the clock. CCTV also enables us to track down the features of criminals easily to make the case easier for the police. However, it may be an intrusion of privacy as our movements are under observation every minute of the day. So CCTV is not a definite “good” suggestion to prevent crime though it has more advantages then disadvantages.
I agree with Shaun that Singapore should step on CCTV surveillance. Busy streets and narrow alleys should be under surveillance as there is a higher chance that crimes will be committed. This may lead to people thinking twice before breaking the law and instill fear in them. But CCTV surveillance may not always catch the image of the criminals as some of them wear masks to disguise themselves. Thus installing CCTV surveillance is definitely not enough. There should also be policeman patrolling to ensure that crimes are not committed. Thus, I feel that Singapore should step up on installing CCTV surveillance.
CCTV surveillance acts as an evidence when police are solving crimes. The police use it to track and help identify suspects. This video evidence is also extremely important when police are solving crimes. The suspect’s action will be recorded and thus making it easier for police to nap criminals. There will not always be a witness in all of the crime scenes; thus, CCTV surveillance also acts as a “witness”, that allows people to think before they do a crime. It also helps to reduce the crime rate of the city to make it a safe place for its residents. Security is therefore ensured.
CCTV surveillance might make people feel uncomfortable because it invades their privacy. Many “eyes” are watching every movement of a person at every angle. Installing CCTV cameras are making a huge investment. CCTV cameras are not cheap and maintaining them requires a lot of money. In addition, it will not help in saving electricity, especially when most of the CCTV cameras are turned on twenty-four hours, seven days per week.
Singapore should fork up a sum of money to step up on CCTV surveillance in light of economic downturn , the threat of terrorism and the increase in the crime rate. However, CCTV cameras should not be installed at every angle of Singapore because that would invade people’s privacy. More CCTV cameras should be installed at public places that are more populated, such as shopping centers and places that have a higher risk of crimes like robberies taking place, such as banks and jewellery shops.
Security is much more important than privacy. When I am walking down a street, anything could happen to me, thus, having CCTV cameras installed, is like buying security insurance and having an extra “Guide Dog”. It is the police that are watching over us, and not gangsters, so it should not matter much, in terms of privacy. However, if CCTV cameras are installed in private places such as toilets, changing rooms or private houses, that is invading our privacy.
During an economy downturn, most family’s income would decrease. If a burglary occurred in their houses, it would only make matter worse for the family. If loan shark harassment occurs to them, they would need to spend extra money to “renovate” their houses, which is a waste of money. I think it is a good idea to install CCTV cameras.
Installing fake CCTV cameras is a cheaper option to reduce crime rate in a city. It will also make people think twice before doing a crime. However, it is very easy to differentiate a fake CCTV camera and a working CCTV camera by observing if wires are present. I would not buy fake CCTV cameras, because if a real crime happens, I will have no evidence to protect what is important to me.
In my opinion, I hope Singapore would step up its security, especially after Mas Selamat had escaped from a highly secured detention centre.
I agree with Shao Wei that an economic downturn results in a loss of jobs nation-wide and thus a loss of income, and making people desperate to get money in a wrong way. In the context of Singapore, during such difficult times, most people will borrow money illegally from loan sharks, and when they do not pay back the money they had borrowed, these loan sharks will vandalise their houses. Thus, in such a situation, a CCTV camera will be very useful in nabbing the culprits or suspects.
I think that installing cameras in the streets of New York City is a very good idea and it may help in preventing and reducing the amount of crimes taking place in New York. The offenders will think twice before acting as their faces may be caught on the cameras and they will be spotted easily. The crime rates will decrease drastically if more cameras are installed. The intrusion of privacy is not the main problem as the cameras are used for security purposes.
I agree with Edmund that Singapore should step up on security and crime prevention. Singapore can learn a lot from cities such as New York and London who have a highly advanced security system which helps the police to nab offenders easily. ‘Low crime doesn’t mean no crime’. Although we have a low crime rate, we should not neglect the fact that we still have offenders in Singapore. Littering poses as a serious crime in Singapore. Singapore should consider installing more cameras in the vicinity of Housing blocks or the downtown area where the cameras can catch the crime offenders easily. People who live in bungalows can also install cameras, which can prevent cases such as burglary. Cameras act as deterrence and can result in the drop in the crime rate.
The advantage: I think that the installation of Close Circuit Televisions (CCTV) is a very wise idea to aid policemen and detectives in arresting criminals. The installation of CCTVs is sure to help decrease the amount of crime rate. However, low crime doesn't mean no crime. There may be blind spots that can still post a threat to the citizens. By installing CCTVs, criminals could be catch with proof.
The disadvantage: With the advancement of technology, there are many hackers that lurks among us. If the hackers are able to get access to those CCTVs, they would be able to carry out their crime successfully and delete any proof of their illegal acts, allowing them to carry on with those illegal acts.
If so, that would to mean that peoples' privacy would be invaded and criminals have "eyes" everywhere.
Thus I think its is not a wise idea to set up CCTVs in neighbourhoods.
The main reason of the plunging number of robbery and theft cases is due to global recession. It has also dealt a great blow to the thieves and robbers. Which have made the 'kiasu' (literally means fear of losing) Singaporeans to buy fake CCTVs to deter crime. Although the CCTVs installed outside their homes may seem unreal to the potential law-breakers, this problem can be easily solved by adding some wires to the dummy CCTVs.
The advantages of having a dummy CCTV: - Cheaper than a real CCTV and requires less work to install. - It looks like a real CCTV, hence potential law-breakers would think that it is a real one and therefore, not choosing that particular area as they think that the CCTV might be able to record what they are doing. - The owners of the CCTV need not be afraid that it would be stolen as it is easy to replace and it is moderately cheaper than the real CCTV.
The disadvantages of having a dummy CCTV: - It cannot work like a real CCTV. - Having a dummy CCTV might not be useful to those burglars and robbers who are serial law-breakers. As they are so-called experienced and can easily differentiate a real CCTV from a fake CCTV.
There is no implications of your privacy as the CCTV is not a real one, thus it cannot capture and record images.
As stated above, global recession has caused many people to lose their jobs and due to their desperate need of money, they resort to stealing and even robbing. Thus, in order to reduce the crime level, Singaporeans should step up on their security.
Q2) While there are pros, there would be cons, firstly:Having a CCTV would inform people that there is something valuable in the shpo and thats why there are installing it.Obviously with a CCTV, they would have lesser worries . However I beg to differ, with a CCTV there would be electircity bills, as it have to be switched on 24hours a day . Secondly, most robbers would not come in the shop without any masks or stockings that would conseal their identity, Moreover , as you can see from studies , robbery rates have still been increasing due to fact that CCTV's are not efficent. Thirdly,as one of the critics have said privacy would no longer be used as every movement would be tracked. Moreover United States being a human right country would be contradicting themselves with the CCTV. And Lastly, no matter how advanced the camera is in identifying the gun, the most important is for the police to be at the scene and be able to arrest the robber. Summing up, CCTV's may not be as important as improvised by the US.
I totally disagree with Serge as he said that hackers would hack into the CCT surveillance cameras and delete data of their information and their whereabouts. The police would need to further find evidence to show that this person has committed a crime. Also, hacking CCT camera system may lead to a person being nabbed by the police as they have the tools and the ability to track down the robber. Most of the people who commit crimes like stealing and robbery are those who are not well-to-do or even bankrupt and they resort to stealing to support their families and parents. They may not even have the money to buy the hacking equipments, let alone finding a professional to learn the hacking process. I feel that Singapore should install more surveillance cameras in the streets and shops as this would provide more information to the police when a robbery has occured in the district.
I think that the advantages of having CCTV are just like what the straits times had mentioned, preventing more crimes and loan sharks harassment cases. Although it cannot be 100% safe with just CCTV alone, because the burglars and loans sharks will definitely try to use even more ways to prevent people to recognize them and a CCTV can be seen easily from far, and it is not that small until no one could spot it. The disadvantages are that some people will not like it as they would feel that someone is watching them somewhere, so they would usually quarrel over things like this. Other than this, if the police thinks that if every household has a CCTV, there would not be any need for patrolling around the neighborhood and so, the security side will also be affected. Singapore actually should step up on CCTV surveillance as after the case of Mas Selamat, many people have lost their trust in the security side of Singapore. Thus, feeling scared of things like burglary, loan sharks harassments are natural. But with the economic downpour, I think that for those who think that they really need the extra security, they could buy the cheaper ones, to play safe. But if those that are richer and are mainly the target of burglars, maybe should buy those more expensive ones. Actually, I think that for those that have financial problems but still wants to play safe and prevent burglaries and loan shark harassments, they could actually just buy a dog.As for my own privacy problems, I do not think there will be a lot of them. Maybe some of them just do not like people installing CCTV, do not like the feeling of being watched, but as for me myself, I think that as long as other people do not do funny things in the public, it is actually fine as shopping centers are just like that. Everywhere corner there will be CCTV. As for Singapore this small island, there will always be a side of good and a side of bad.
The advantages of CCT surveillance is that it allows robbers and burglars to be on their guard and to think twice before doing a crime. Cameras that are in their way are able to record every move they make or even recognise their faces. Installing CCT surveillance in Singapore will surely decrease crime rates.
The disadvantages of CCT surveillance is that it requires a lot of manpower to support this. Singapore had to employ more policemen to monitor each of the cameras. It also does not guarantee no crime in Singapore. There are still crimes that took place and the cameras are still unable to nap the culprit.
In my opinion, Singapore should install more CCT surveillance in places that are most probably to have crimes. For example, CCT surveillance should be install near MRT stations, trains, banks, jewelry stores and shopping malls. Singapore should not install too many CCT surveillance in places with no or low crimes, for example the roadside walking pavement.
Installing too many CCT surveillance will also let Singaporeans feel that they have no privacy. A couple on a date would not want to be filmed when they are strolling along the walkways.
I think that installing CCTVs would surely reduce the number of crimes in Singapore as they will not only instill fear into the offenders, they also can observe the activities in an area. CCTVs also act as evidence to the police as it can identify the criminals easily not only through the face of the criminal, it also can identify the criminal through physical appearances like tattoos and scars. This would be very helpful if the criminal is wearing a mask. However, there are also disadvantages of installing CCTVs. Criminals would not do an offense knowing that there are CCTVs around the area. Most criminals would plan carefully on how to avoid these cameras or even destroy it before carrying out the offense. Installing fake CCTVs is a much cheaper option but is less effective. As it is easy for experienced criminals to differentiate between the real one and the fake one, there is no point using the fake CCTV to scare criminals. Lastly, i do not think that installing CCTVs will be an intrusion of privacy as they are used for security purposes.
Firstly the disadvantages for installing CCTV are the cost and violating other's privacy. There are many advantages to installing CCTV. By installing CCTV, it can instill fear in burglars and thieves. As the economy in Singapore now is very bad. The number of crime rate will tend to increase and cause more breaking in to happen. Therefore, I think that installing CCTVs would be appropriate if the owner can afford to help assist the Singapore Police.
Imagine a scenario where there is no CCTV fixed outside a person's house. The next day, there was a break in and the owner reported the case to the Police. Without any evidence, the Police will have a hard time finding the culprit. However, if the owner has already installed a CCTV, the Police will have a very huge advantage over finding the culprit.
Worried parents over their babies can also install CCTV to make sure that their child is safe from abuse from caretakers. Another bad thing is that it invades other people's privacy. If a CCTV is installed outside a house without permission from your neighbour, whatever actions or things they do will be captured by the CCTV.
Lastly, I think that Installing CCTVs is only useful to a certain extent . For example, if those burglars know that more and more families are installing CCTVs, they will definitely change their plan in breaking in. In conclusion, installing CCTV has both advantages and disadvantages.
Installing CCTV for surveillance is good to prevent crimes like robberies to happen. This can decrease the crime rate. Even if the cameras is unable to capture the face of the criminals, they are able to notice the significant physical appearance of the criminals. This will make criminals think twice before they commit a crime. Also, this will help to catch terrorist before they are able to strike, or able to discover unattended bags or suspicious belongings immediately. Also, the CCTVs are able to identify gunshots, turn towards the source of the noise, and identify the gun that is being shot. This will help in catching criminals as soon as possible. Streets and roads under surveillance, will help in solving crimes. Hit and run cases, without witness, are solvable now, as the CCTV are able to capture the car, along with its license plate.
When CCTV are installed all over the streets, every corner, ever place is under observation, will you feel that it is an invasion of privacy? Think about it. every movement, everything you do, is being watch. will you feel uncomfortable? Well, some will consider security above privacy, and vise-versa. The installed CCTV, has to function 24/7. A machine, can never do that, as they will overheat. Also, machine, has it's weakness. It needs electricity. Criminals might target this weakness, cuts of the electricity supply of the CCTVs and they could commit crimes, when other thinks that nothing will happen. In my opinion, CCTVs in the same area, should not use the same circuit, and have emergency circuit. The other considerable decision, is installing a dummy CCTV.
Dummy CCTV, does not require a lot of electricity, and might scare of criminals. However, sometimes, it could be obvious that it is a dummy. You could bring that to an advantage. Having a single dummy CCTV and others are real, might trick the criminals in being careless, thinking that all others CCTV are also dummies.
In my opinion, CCTVs should be installed, without invasion into people's privacy. That should be the best of both worlds.
I agree with what Zhao Wei had said on the Dummy CCTVs as it is a rather good idea on tricking the robbers into thinking that either all of the CCTVS are dummy, or all the CCTVs are real. So if Dummy CCTVS are installed, we get the best of both world, One is that there would not be too much intrustion of privacy and the residents would not feel watched. Second is that the police can also install some real CCTVs to check on safety of the residents, so both sides would benefit from this idea.
Many people often misunderstand the word 'Crime' as something serious like murder, robbery and theft cases. However, crimes can begin with small crimes such as littering, spouting vulgarities and vandalizing etc. Therefore, I do not agree with a statement Hanyu said when he agreed with Kenneth's post. Hanyu said that installing CCTV might be an intrusion of privacy as our movements are under observation every minute of the day. As stated and shown in the CNN video called “Big brother will be watching over you”, installing CCTV is not an intrusion of privacy because those cameras are not hidden and clearly labeled, thus it is not an intrusion of privacy. Moreover, installing CCTV at our doorstep is definitely not an intrusion of privacy when catching criminals like loan sharks and robbers red-handed.
CCTV surveillance is essential as it serves as a reminder to those who want to commit crimes. CCTV can also be installed in public places like the shopping malls where most shoplifting take place because of too many people and are unattentive to their belongings. It can also ensure that Singapore is a safe country for everyone to live in.
Real CCTVs can prevent crime and help in investigations with footage of suspects. But real CCTV cameras cost from $120 to $400, while dummies, which are only capable of preventing crimes cost $4.50 to $50. However its normal to behave better when there is a camera around you, when you do not know if it is a fake or a real one. But if you look carefully it is possible to recognise whether the camera is a real or a fake one. A real camera has cables linking to it, whereas a fake one does not. So although the fake cameras can be a good bluff, but people can see that its a fake one if they look carefully. So the best method is to lock up all doors and windows when you leave the house, keep the valuables in the safe.
Shaowei said... I agree with Raymond that people are inattentive to their belongings as they think that Singapore is a safe place to live in. To prevent more crimes from happening, people should install CCTVs to let the robbers think twice before they act. People should be more attentive to their belongings so that their belongings will not get stolen so easily and should also think that although Singapore is a safe place to live in, it would never be a country free from theft.
I agree with agree with Kenneth that CCTV surveillance has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are the increased security, as there are limited police forces in Singapore, they could not possibly be patrolling the whole of Singapore for 24 hours a day. CCTV surveillance cameras are able to identify the features of criminals easily and it provides the police with evidences to solve the case. However, some may find it an intrusion of privacy as our movements are being observed on a daily basis.
Many installed Closed-circuit television (CCTV) in their household for crime prevention and monitoring purposes. For example, installing CCTV at your door along the corridor. This is to prevent or lower the rate of committed crimes such as burglaries, pranks, theft, etc. The government also installed CCTV in public such as the shopping centers, train stations and others. This is to prevent terrorism and to for security purposes. When CCTVs are installed everywhere, we would feel that our privacy is being intruded. When every movement that we make and everything that we do is being closely observed, we would definitely feel uneasy especially when we can clearly identify the CCTVs instead of not knowing when are the hidden CCTV cameras.
I agree with Heng Jun Jie that with a CCTV the crime rate would drop. However later he said that privacy would be intruded. I beg to differ as for privacy, the government has all our documents and information does it mean that our privacy is still the same? Next he said that not knowing where the CCTV is basically more of a physological issue rather than a physical one. Done by Michael Ho 12
CCTVs can prevent crimes and terrorism. However, it does not give people much privacy, as the police will track every movement and knows where somebody is, and what they are doing. Despite all this, I think that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance in the streets and dummy CCTVs in HDB flats. I feel that there is a small price to pay to prevent terrorism and crimes, however, when the number of crimes goes down, installing CCTVs would be worth it.
I agreed with Xavier saying that installing CCTV would be worth it when the number of crimes go down. But I do not think that it really can prevent crimes and terrorism. if a burglar does not want to be seen, he would wear a mask. But in the end, the burglar will also get what he wants by just forcing through. So it does not prevent crime, but it helps the police to track down the criminals. Moving on to terrorism, if someone were to really set a bomb in crowded shopping centre, at most the security guard will definitely see it through the CCTV, but can it really be prevented? Maybe yes if his actions were fast enough. But what if everything came too late? Nothing will be left or found in the scene. So some of his statements were agreeable while some are not. Lastly, I totally agreed when he said that preventing terrorism and crimes are not free, there must be a price to pay. Not only just to CCTV, but other things that could also prevent terrorism and crimes. Thus, I conclude that CCTV would not be of too much help but for sometimes,it may just help by a little if there was a careless crime or terrorism act occurring.
The advantages of using CCTV is that you can prevent crimes like thefts, vandalism, robberies, etc. from happening. By installing the CCT surveillancei on the street, the people can feel safe when they are walking on the street during the day or night. The disadvantages of using CCTV is that its requires a huge amount of manpower and electricity. The workers have to take shifts to monitor the CCTV during the day and night which is very tiring. The amount of electricity wasted on these CCTV are huge as they are needed to be installed in huge numbers if the government wanted to observe the whole city like a busy city, Orchard Road, etc. Moreover, if there are hackres, they would be able to invade the privacy of other people. I do not think that Singapore needs to install so many CCTV as Singapore is already a well-maintained country. Singapore has a tight security which will ease our anxiety and do not need to install a CCTV. In my opnion, I think that I would not need a CCTV installed in my house because the security in Singapore is wonderful.
There are many advantages in using CCT surveillance. The electrical gadget is a very useful appliance. It can be switched on for twenty-four hours and this is one of the best ways to prevent crime. It is reasonably priced, easy to configure, and easy to maintain. It is versatile and useful in many ways. You can compare the CCTV to guards but the CCTV will win by a milestone. The guards might sleep on the job but the CCTV does not. It prevents crimes such as robbery and vandalism. The people who might want to commit these various crimes might have a long hard think before committing any crime. CCTV surveillance can be used in many places and situations, from the HDB blocks to the everyday work place. Even with a fake camera in place, it also work wonder, cutting down the percentage of crimes committed, this is because the presence of a "dummy" camera can provide patrons or passerby’s with a false sense of security that is not there. There are also disadvantages of having the CCT surveillance. The CCTV, along with all other electrical gadgets, is prone to a breakdown. In such a case, the CCTV will not in operation and people might take advantage of this situation. The CCTV also consumes a lot of electricity as it is switched on all the time. The CCTV might also be an intrusion to our privacy. We cannot be somewhere without the eerie feeling that we are being “watched”. Most people would not like that. The CCTV might not be able to cover all the areas in a particular place and might call in the need for more and that cost more. In the case of the fake camera being used, it is a risk as the difference between a real and fake is easily spotted.
In the end, humans and machine have to work hand in hand to make the place where we live a safer place. No matter how good a camera is, it cannot replace a person’s eye in the field of sensing danger or someone acting suspicious.
I think that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance in order to lower the number of crime, althought Singapore having a lower crime rate than Newyork but people do think twice under CCTV's observation than normal. Its recording could be useful to provide evidence for crime investigation. It also save manpower and decrease the danger of guarding.
I agree with William that guards will sleep on the job but the CCTVs do not. For example, a security guard fell asleep at night and a burglar manage to get into the house estate. The next day, one person's house got broken in and the guard has no idea. This is where the help from the CCTV comes in. I believe that installing CCTV is a very essential thing.
I agreee with ZiHao that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance desptie the fact that Singapore have a lower crime rate than New York.Through many recordings of CCTV, the police have solved many cases of crimes. For example, if a person commits a crime and then was at first judged as innocent while the victim was judged as guilty, who would know the real truth? But with the recording of CCTV, we can know exactly what have happen and justice could be done.
I agree with what SanZeng said. CCTV needs a lot of manpower and electricity. Having the CCTV on for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week consumed a lot of electricity. With not only 1 CCTV, the electricity consumed is heavily multiplied. However, this is totally needed to prevent crimes and collect information.
There are a lot of advantages in using the CCTV. The advantage of the CCTV would be that it is always functioning and can be placed in almost everywhere whereas the guards might just sleep on the job. The CCTV also provides a very good drop in the number of crimes as the camera can catch any robberies or crimes anywhere at anytime. It is on surveillance 24 hours a day without failing and it is also easier to start up and fix, rather than to train up or teach a person on security training. Increasing the number of CCTV will help in decreasing the number of crimes and let people think twice about committing a crime. Darrell Teo(34)
I agree with what zihao said. The number of crimes will be lowered when there is somebody monitoring. Everybody will think twice in committing crime as the CCTV will captured the whole process and thus, help in aiding investigation and evidence.
I agree with what Darrell said. Guards might sleep during the job and allowing crime to take place during the time they are asleep. However, if there are CCTVs, criminal acts can be capture as proof. Even if they are able to escape, there is evidence and the police can carry on looking for the those who are responsible for those acts.
I disagree with what San Zeng said as guards need not have to monitor the CCTVs 24/7 as they will record the activities in an area. Even if there is a crime going on and the Guards happen not to see it, the police can still refer to the recorded video clip which can be an evidence to catch the criminal.
I agree with what ZiHao had said. Even though Singapore has a lower crime rate, it does not mean that there are no crimes happening in Singapore. It is important to step up on CCTV surveillance as they can help to prevent crimes, bringing crimes to a minimum. We cannot rely on man power on supervising the area as human needed rest. When human were tired, they tend to get some rest and during these times, crimes might happen without their knowing. Humans could never supervise many areas at a time; hence we needed CCTV to help supervise those areas for the safety and security.
What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ? The CCTV are useful as it can be used to capture images so that we can prevent many criminal cases to happen . Using CCTV is also better as it can save more man power, so that the police and the security guards can have more rest.Because of economic downturn, many people will borrow money from loan shark, the loan shark often do things which are against law in order to get back the money they lent.CCTV can capture their image to help the police to identify who are the suspects. Done by XinYang(19)
I agree with Xiang Jing that installing cameras is a very good idea and it help preventing and reducing the number of crimes taking place. People will think twice before acting as their face may be capture by CCTV. Although some may felt that their privacy is being intrude but since the device is used for security purposes, people will adapt it in time
I agree with San Zeng that large amount of electricity and manpower will be consumed. If the CCTV was on 24 hours everyday, there will be a huge increase in the usage of electricity of the household. But if dummy CCTV could be used, the electricity usage will decrease. This will also prevent crimes and people will think hard before committing crimes.
I agree with kenneth that installing CCTV has its own advantages and disadvantages. Installing a CCTV can help greatly in reducing the amount of crimes in Singapore.
But at the same time, installing a CCTV is also a bad idea as it makes people feel that they have no privacy at all. Nobody wished to be watched for every single action they do.
There are many advantage of CCT surveillance. Firstly, it could prevent robberies and theft crimes from happening. Although the CCT surveillance will not definitely ensure your safety, at least the robbers will think twice before breaking in to your house. Even if the crimes still occur, the CCTV would be a great help to the police for capturing the robber. As such , robberies and theft would definitely drop. Secondly, it is very convenient as it will be functioning around the clock everyday and it could be installed in many location, such as walls in front of the safe box. It can also be monitored anywhere, anytime. Thirdly, it could serve more than one purpose, other than preventing crimes. As mentioned in the “Straits Times” news article, “Sales of CCTV cameras, alarms jump.More residents fear crime, loan sharks during tough times” .An employer caught her maid abusing the child with the help of the CCTV and successfully sent the maid to jail. This is especially useful if you are working long hours and have elderly and children at home, worried about their safety, hoping to get a peace of mind. As many has not encounter any robberies or danger before and think that it would not happen on him/her, but life is unpredictable and it might save you from danger one day. Lastly, installing CCTV may be an infringement to someone’s privacy, but many shopping mall in Singapore has installed CCTV and proved that it has effectively prevent crimes. If there are cameras installed, people tend to behave, so if we install CCTV at home, would it help the people being monitored to get rid of the bad habits they have? Assuming there is a case where a cruel robber wants your money but you tried to resist. The robber was about to kill you when the police arrived and arrested the robber because of the help of CCTV. What would than matter at that time?Life or privacy?
I do not agree with Zhao Wei although recommending to install one dummy CCTV,whereas others are real would be a great solution. There are many loopholes.Have you ever thought that some experienced robbers would check all the CCTV? What if so coincidence that the robber identified the fake CCTV and took advantage of it and only stole the valuable items in the area that are not covered in surveillance? On top of that, CCTV does not cover every point of the house and now, if you use one dummy camera and allowed the robber to take advantage of it, wouldn’t it defeat the whole purpose of installing CCTV? Overall, prevention is better than cure. Placing just one dummy CCTV could be a short-term solution but definitely not a long-term solution as if more and more people uses this method, robbers would also be aware of this method and thus taking advantage of it.
I agree with Xin Yang about CCTVs being able to capture images to prevent crime. However, nobody would be foolish enough to borrow from a loan shark to prevent loan sharks from harassing them. Instead, they could have asked their family or friends for the money to buy a CCTV camera.
I agree that putting the CCTV had really decrease the number of cases of robbery and had really assisted the police in helping to find the culprit . However i also felt that it also distrupted the privacy of we human beings . For example , if a couple wanted to kiss on the lift but there is CCTV, they would feel abit of uneasiness and weird. There are many advantages of putting the CCTV . Firstly, it could prevent robberies and theft crimes from happening. Secondly , it could assist help to the police force . Thirdly , it could use as proof to fight against cases for the lawyers . It would really serve a great purpose but the only thing that disturb privacy .
I agree with Bryan for his comments on the usefulness of the CCTV. It really serve a good role for many people. As for what he said , he asked if life or privacy was more important, I would really choose life though it disturb our privacy. Of course, the best is if someone could invent stuff that would help us and do not disturb our privacy .
i do not agree with Darrell that the CCTV would be that it is always functioning and can be placed in almost everywhere whereas the guards might just sleep on the job. The criminals may be able to hack into the CCTV and cut off the power supply of it. By doing this, they can be able to break into people's houses and steal their valuables and leave before the owners awake. By putting up a CCTV outside a house, the burglars will know that there are valuables items inside the house.
I disagree with Qi Han that CCTV will prevent accidents from happening at all. We humans are prone to making mistakes and an accident is very likely to happen. On the contrary, people who might be speeding and see the CCTV might try to slow down and therefore in the process, slamming down on the brakes and crash into the person in front. This is also one of the many reasons why accidents happen.
I agree that there are many advantages of the CCT surveillance. It helps to decrease the number of robbery cases. But there are also disadvantages. We will feel uncomfortable as we are being watched when we are walking along the streets. Although Singapore has a lower crime rate then New York, but putting the CCTV would help to decrease the robbery cases even more as the police would not patrol around the neighbourhood the whole day. Putting the CCTV would really helps the human beings very much.
What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ? The major advantage is that it protects the people living in the area and by putting these cameras it makes the criminals think twice before they want to steal or do anything illegal. Another advantage of installing this cameras is that it if there is anyone badly injured and there is no one in the area, the person injured may be seen from the cameras and a ambulance or some help maybe sent to save the person. -Done by, Galvin Koh (9)
I disagree about what Zi Hao said as i personally think that Singapore is a small country and the police does patrol around the country. Singapore does not have a lot of break-ins as housing estates have neighbours and if a break in were to occur, the neighbours would be alarmed and people would say they may break in in the day when all is at work or at night when all is sleeping but actually there are housewives that stay at home in the day and at night even if there are cameras, the person must be smart enough to wear a mask when he is doing a break in.
I agree with Bryan that the robbers would think twice before breaking in to your house as they were afraid of being caught by the police. Bryan asked whether life or privacy was more important, I would choose life as nothing is more important then your own life during that crucial time.
What are the advantages of CCTV? With the help of CCTV, we can catch criminals in action.Upon seeing the CCTV, criminals may think twice before attempting to commit a crime. Installing CCTVs have been a great help to police. With it, police have managed to solve many cases of crimes with CCTV as the evidence. The CCTV never lies. But sometimes, it may cause certain discomfort to people
What are the advantages of CCT surveillance? The main advantage is that CCT surveillance is its effectiveness in preventing crimes that involve breaking and entering. By recording an intruder’s action, it allows police to identify and apprehend him. It is unlikely that a burglar will find a way to avoid these cameras as they may be hidden in secret places that would not rouse nay suspicion. With the help of CCT surveillance, police will easily arrest the culprit, so as to prevent the culprit to commit other crimes. The CCT surveillance on roads could prevent the many crimes from taking place because most people would not dare to commit a crime since all their actions are being monitored. Another advantage is that people will have a sense of safety while walking on the streets as robbery and other crimes are very unlikely to occur.
I agree with galvin that a badly injured person may be seen from the cameras and help maybe sent to the save the person because if there is an elderly who fall down in the neighborhood and he or she is badly injured, and there are no residents who witness the scene, then the elderly would be helpless. With the CCT surveillance, the elderly would be sent to the hospital immediately to receive treatments.
Quite recently, my family was one of the victims. No doubt, we were not directly involved in the borrowing of money. We had paint slashed in front of our front door. Upon investigating further, we realized that the previous owner borrowed money from a loan shark and had shifted house. We became the victims and tried seeking police for their help, but since the loan sharks came secretly at odd hours making it uneasy to nap them. Finally, my father decided to install a CCTV to settle the problem. Since then we have been living in peace feeling very reassured even when we went on a holiday trip. As an advantage of the CCTV was that my dad was able to view whatever that was happening ay home even when on a holiday trip, simply by viewing it online. The disadvantages were as what I had stated on the above situation. There were loan sharks who have misunderstood a person and poured paint on our door. The technology has advanced so much that the number of crimes and people loitering around our house over the previous years has reduced dramatically. This shows that we have more privacy and others would no take the CCTV for granted be it real or fake. I think that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance in light of the economic down turn, as more people will tend to steal. However, with the help of deploying CCTV in shopping centre, no one dared to steal in all situations. I had not known how it important CCTV was until it happen to ourselves, becoming victims of the loan sharks. My personal point of view is that to encourage others to get one regardless of its cost as its always best to be safe than sorry.
John Lim said: I agree with Christopher as that putting the CCTV had really decrease the number of cases of robbery and had really assisted the police in helping to find many culprits, as till now, it had prevented robberies and theft crimes from happening so often as in the old times. Secondly, it had assisted the police force in many ways, example: Giving main descriptions on the thief like his height what he wear, what are his actions, ect. Thirdly, it could use as a proof to fight against cases for the lawyers. It would really serve a great purpose.
I agree with sanzeng that using CCTV , a very big amount of electricity will be used but i think it is worthy when we want to prevent criminal cases to happen. Xinyang(19)
Hello i am Yam Jianwen(37) I would defend my family as they have given me warmth and happiness since the day I was born. Without my family, I would have no courage, no one to support me in anything i do. Therefore, my family is themost important to me and I will definitely defend them.
Hi I am Ng Guan Wei (22). If i were to defend, I will defend my belongings, like phone etc. A phone can keep us communicated, and it is the most important. Then I will of course defend my family. My family are the ones who have helped me through many difficulties, and I owe it all to them.
Hi 2Charles I am Terry Ng (23) In times of threat or crisis, I would defend my parents all the way. My parents have given us all the love and worked hard through 14 years of my life to bring me up to become such a person I am now. They provided me with necessities and sent me to school to get a proper education for my future. They support me and pick me up whenever i fell. Without their support, I would have fallen and not stand up again.
I disagree with what you posted. You said that you would first defend your handphone when a war breaks out. I think your parents or family should come first as your family are the ones who will support you through your whole life and we should work hard to repay their hard work.
In any threat or crisis, the first thing i will defend is my family and country. My family has protected me since young and have given me protection. It is my responsibility to protect them when they need the help. Secondly, i will definitely help my country to fight during crisis and threat as my country have given us what we needed and the safe environment.
Hi, I am Shaun Loh(20) Like most of my classmates had said,my family is the most vauluable and dearest to me. My parents slogged and raised me up.I am very grateful because they spent a great deal of time and a huge sum of money raising me. Although I disappointed them in countless situations, they still forgive me. Therefore,I will defend my family at all cost.
I would defend my family first as my family members are not young anymore and may not be fit enough to defend themselves. Secondly, they are also my closest and most important people in my life and of course i would hope that they are safe. Thirdly, i would defend my country as if i can defend Singapore during war times, than my family would be safe in the country.
i do not agree with you fully as family and country would come first if there would be a war. Although family and country would be important, however i agree with you that belongings(like radio that can keep us aware of the outside world) and rations(like food that can keep us alive) is also important as i would need them during war times.
I just want to make a few comments on Guanwei's post.
Firstly, defending your belongings is something most people will do when you are in danger. However, there are a few person that is much more important then your belongings. They are your family members. Communication devices such as cellphones are not really important compared to someone close to you and has been with you since you were born. Once you have lost your kins, they are not going to come back to you.
Hello, I am Tong Shao Wei (36) If I were to defend, I would defend my parents as they have spent much time caring for me. It was my parents who stood by me and supported me whenever I am in difficulties. They never fail to help me overcome these problems and always encourage me to work harder in life and be a man useful to society. At a young age, they have started to teach me many things in life and watched me grow up after all these years. They gave me all that I need and did not complain about anything. I would want to be a man useful in society and not let my parents down.
Darrell Teo(34): If I were to defend, I would defend my family as they have contributed the most in growing up. They care and supported me whenever I have difficulties or when I have doubts. Defending my country will also benefit as if I succeeded in defending the country, so that the country can provide a safe and nice environment for people to live in.
Hi! I am Yeo Qi Han (38) When there is threat or crisis, I would definitely defend my family. My family has protected me since I was young. Hence it is my responsibility to protect them at all cost. Secondly, I will protect those who need my help as we all belong to the same nation and hence we should help each other and stay united.
My response to Guan Wei: Guan wei, I think you should protect your love ones first and not ur belongings because they are the ones who bring you up and protected you. They raise you up through hard earn money and I think they should be the ones you protect.
Hello, I am Tong Shao Wei(36) I agree with Shaun that parents are the most valuable people in our lives. Nothing is far more important than your family as they are the ones who raised you from young. Without them, we would not be here now so we should remember that our parents are the ones that we should protect and love. We should not send them to the old folk's home when they are old like people now do. We should be grateful to them and not leave them in the lurch when they are old and unable to work.
I strongly disagree with what you have posted. We should protect our family rather than our belonging. Although phone can keep you communicated, but during war, do you still have the time to use your phone and call for help instead of protecting your family from danger?
Hi, I’m Tan Han Yu(28) When anything threatens my family, I will do my best to defend them, as my family is the closest kin I have in the world. If you lose a materialistic possession like your phone, you can always replace it with another. However, if you lose a family member, you can never replace them. My family encourages and praises me when I do well, gives me support when I fail. They provide everything I needed when I was young and gave warmth and a sense of home in my house. Secondly my family has always been the one sheltering and protecting me. It will be my duty to protect them when that time comes. Thirdly I will defend my country, as without your country, you won’t have a sense of home. Without your country, you would lose most of the things you hold dear.
Hi this is Han Yu I agree with Qi Han. My familly was always there for me, protecting me and guiding me along as i grow up. It is my duty to protect them in return when I'm grown up, capable of defending them in times of crisis
Hello this is Jianwen(37) I agree with Hanyu that our family cannot be replaced. Our family would be there for the rest of our lives, because we are related by blood and we love each other. As the saying goes, blood is thicker than water. Thus, we should defend our family no matter what happens.
Hi,this is Beng Kuan (33) The most important thing in my life is my family.Like what everyone say, blood is thicker than water. Our parents brought us up to this beautiful world, gave us the best things ever, make sure that we are safe and sound, things like that.So whenever there is a crisis involved, many people will usually save themselves first(naturally),because men are selfish. As a St. John cadet myself, I will first save myself(following my own mindset) and then save my family.Although family are the closest kins to us,but as a men,you will not hesitate to save yourself first.Nobody dares to say that they will save their family members first instead of saving them selves first.
Hi, I am Guo Ze Chuan(10). In times of threat or crisis, I would definitely defend my family members because it was them who supported and encouraged me when I encountered any problems and not my computer or handphone. If they are gone, they are gone forever and nothing can replace them. They have been taking care and protecting me when i am young, so it is my responsibility to defend them when I grow up. I will also defend my country as it is my home that protects me from dangers.
This is Beng Kuan(33) again. I agree with shao wei saying parents are the most important thing in our lives. They were the ones who watch us grew up.We must be filial to them when we grow up.
In any threat or danger, I would protect my country fist as if my country survives the threat, so will my family. Next, family members. They are the one who loves me for who I am and help me get through difficult times. Follow by, any other relatives or even strangers whom I do not know. We live in a racial harmony country thus it is right for me to protect people of other race.
Hi, I am Ze Chuan(10). Comment to Guan Wei. I disagree with you completely as you said you will defend you handphone first because your handphone can keep you communicated. What is the point of communicating when you have lost your family members? You must remember who bring you to this world and who are the ones that worked very hard to bring you up. Did your handphone protected and raise you up?
I agree fully with Ze Chuan. Phones and computers are materialistic things. Family cannot be replaced unlike phones and computers. They provided us with whatever we need and protected us when we were young. They love us so much that they are willing to give up their lives in exchange for the safety of us. We should do the same in return for their kindness and be filial to them.
HI, This is WIlliam The most important to me in my life will be my family and friends. I will choose protect them as i am sure they will do the same. We must protect our parents as they were the ones who made it possible for us to be in this world. Our family is irreplaceable, one can not use money or anything else to replace them. They are our own blood and skin. We must not hesitate to save others as we our gentleman, we strive to help others wherever possible and like our creed, to it to the best of our ability. Thus we should defend our family first, friends second and put ourselves in the third place.
I disagree with what Guan Wei say as once family are gone, they will never come back but as for belongings, you can buy a new set. Family are the one who can buy you such stuff and if they are gone and when the belongings are spoiled, no one will be able to buy such things for you anymore.
i agree with Darrell that protecting our family is the most important thing. They were the ones who single handedly raised up for these 14 years. We do not hear them complain of blame us for causing trouble to them. I feel that we must protect them with whatever it takes
I think the most important thing in my life is my family and friends as they are the ones that are with me through thick and thin. My parents are the ones who raised me and I will not be who I'm today without my family. I'll protect my friends as well as they are the ones who listen to what I have to say when I'm down and they make me feel better. My family and friends are the ones whom I'll protect.
I agree with Ze Chuan that computers and handphones are second to our family members. Parents are the ones who guide and raise us in our lives and they can never be replaced. They are the ones that raised us up single handedly and we should always be filial to them.
I agree with Darryl that protecting our family is the most important thing as they have raised us for 14 years, they have also got us everything we could wished for in their capabity.
Hi, This is Andrew The most important thing in my life would be my family and friends. I will do all I can to protect them from danger as they are the closest to me than anything in this world. Friends and family are irreplaceable and once they are gone, nothing can bring them back. They encourage us when we fail in something and tell us not to give up, and stay strong always. Thus, I will defend them till the last breath of mine is gone in times of crisis.
I am Teo Shao Heng. The most important thing in my live is my family, therefore, I would defend them if they are in danger or in time of crisis like in war or riots so on so fore(touch wood)as they are and will always be the closest to me and the only people i can really trust. They would encourage and help me whenever and always when i need help.
I totally agree with what Shao Heng have said. Our family members are the most important people that we should defend. They help us in our difficulties, they prise us when we do something good. They are the ones who live under the same roof as us, we should defend and care for them. No one can replace them.
As said above, I will defend my family no matter what happens. Second on my list, I will defend my friends. When I am at home, my family protects me. When I am in school, my friends and I take care of each other. They helped me in my schoolwork and other problems as well. They cheer me up when I am feeling low, they celebrate with me when I achieved something good. Best friends are hard to find. We should always treasure our friends every moment we are together with them. I will surely defend them as well.
I am Lee Shang Jun Xavier (16) I would defend my family and my friends, because without them, I would not be what I am today. My family has taught me moral values and love, while my friends thought me friendship. To lose them would be a pity as they had taught us so much.
I would defend my family as it is most important to me. Whenever i felt stress or upset family members are the one who understand me the most and encourage me to go on. Everything in my family burned into my memory as i grow. I can't put a price on them, It could never be replace by anything that pass by me life. Zhang Zihao 2C 40
TO GuanWei I really do not understand why belongings are most important to you, since you understand that your family are the ones who helped you through difficulties. You could always put a price on a belonging but can you put any price on your family?
The most important thing that I would defend in times of threat or crisis is my family members as well as friends. This is because they were the ones who raised me up and created this wonderful life for me. They were the ones who also taught me knowledgeable things and helped me when I needed help. I would also defend my country as it gave me a wonderful home to live in all these years.
To Guan Wei: I disagree with your comment because I think family members and friends is more important than a non-living cell-phone. Lets say if you are on a mountain and going to drop off, but you can only have enough time to either save your family member or handphone, you would choose your handphone? I would not because there may not have any signal in the mountains and could be just as useless. However, saving someone have a higher chance of getting out alive together in moments like this.
Hi again, I am Andrew. I fully agree with what Xavier has said. Indeed our family plays a pivotal role in our education as they teach us moral values and the right path to follow when we grow more mature and older. I think that we should protect our families as without them, we would not be in this wonderful world. As the saying goes, blood is thicker than water. We should always protect our families and protect the country by defending it with our lives. Thus, to lose our loves ones would be a pity as they are our moral support in life.
Hi i am Sun Qi Nan register number 27 from 2c. The most important thing that I would defend in times of threat or crisis is of course my family and friends. Although some time i dislike what my parents had did to me or what they hand done for me but after all they are still my parents, so it is our duty to protect them no matter how hard it is or how difficult it is. As for friends they have been always be to there to support me and help me therefor if there is really a war, i will also protect my friends as they had done a lot for me
Hi again, I am Sun Qi Nan I fully agree with what Zhang Zi Hao said. He said that our family members are priceless i think he is most correct. As years went by our parent gave us food, gave us clothes to wear and gave us house to stay. most importantly they are always there to support us and encourage us to achieve great things, across our limits. And there is trouble or anything problem, our parents will always be there to solve the problem with us therefore i think our family members are priceless. so we will protect them no matter what it takes or what ever it cost.
I would definitely defend my family as they are part of my life. My family always gives me their full support and encouragement when i am feeling down. They educate me on the importance of moral values so that i could become an upright citizen. My family gives me joy and a sense of belonging. They forgive me when i make mistakes in my life and pray that i would not make the same mistake again. My family is very important to me and i will defend them at any cost.
i agree with William that our family is irreplaceable, one can not use money or anything else to replace them. They always gives us hope and protect us since the day we are born. Our family gives us warmth and support whenever we met difficulties in our lives. They never give up on us, always believing and have the trust in us. It is our responsibility to protect and defend our family.
I would definitely defend my family members because they are my priority. They are the most valuable things that can be found on Earth. After all, they give me unconditional love, comfort and care since I was born. I cannot live without them. We can afford to lose all our materialistic things and possessions because they are replaceable. Besides defending my family, I would also defend my country because I love the peace and harmony in my country. In times of War or Crisis, I will defend my family members and at the same time, our beloved country, Singapore, because this is where I belong.
I disagree with your post because family members should be your priority when war comes. What is the point of living when you have all your physical personal belongings but lose your family members?
My family member is my first priority and that is why I would choose to defend them. They provide me with care, love, education, fulfill my needs, teaching me moral values, giving me family warmth and they are always there for me. I could not imagine if my family is not with me, i think i will not be what I am today. Next, I would defend my friends as they are the ones who have been giving me encouragements cheer me on when i am down. They also went through thick and thin with me and giving support when necessary.
I agree with Shao Wei's post of defending family members. Family should be at the top priority of your life as they provide you with your needs and fulfill them for you. They are also the only people that have watch you grow up and the for me, I would put my family members as the first priority and defend them
Hi! I am Lim Yi Foong (18) I would defend my family members as well as my loved ones as they cannot be replaced. Family members are the closest people in my life and I cannot live without them. They love me very much and I have spent 9-10 months in my mother's womb. If I were to choose, I would put my family members on top of myself, putting them in the first place.
I agree with Qi Nan that although we dislikes what our parents do to us, like disciplining us physically and mentally, I think that what is most important to have a happy family is that we must be able to communicate with one another so as to minimizing misunderstandings
In times like that, I would protect my families first. They were the ones that support me and help me to grow up to develop. Though sometimes my parents were strict but they really cared for me and gave me their time for me. Next would be my girlfriend if I had any, if not my friends. My friends were also there for me when I am down. Sometimes they even understand me more then my parents as we spent more time with each other more.
And the thing that I would defend most is my family, although a lot of people had commented on it, but I want to emphasis, that family is very important to us. They have used their care, love, concern, time, money, to try and make me have a complete family. They gave me love, gave me joy, made me feel part of them, made me feel welcomed, made me had a sense of belonging, me me feel warm. They are always there, no matter the situation.
And I agree with what Yifoong said that we are the closest with our parents , cause we have spent 9-10 months in our mother's womb, hence we would naturally be closer as we had lived in the womb of our mother's womb. And they also loved us so much. Why we cannot defend them.
At all cost, i would defend my family the most. My family had shown a lot of support for me, especially when i did not do well in test. They had shown care to me by asking me not to be sad when i failed my examination. they made me feel that i am important. They are there for me, in every situation
In this kind of situation,I would surely defend my family the most as they are the top priority . My family had given me a lot of care and love for me. Without my family support, I would have felt lonely by myself. They are also the ones for take care of me that can help me to grow up and develop. Then I would like to defend my own country as without a country, i wouldn't have felt a sense of home.
I strongly disagree with what guan wei had posted. In this kind of situation, family is the most important thing as they no matter what had happened to us, our family would encourage and support us. They are also the ones who brought us up for so many years and we should think of them before thinking of other things as family members safety are the top priority.
I feel that cctv is important to ensure the safety of the people around us.It can also be used to make sure precious things would not get stolen. In case of any break in, houses with little children or elderly people should install cctv.Offices and museums should also install cctv cameras as to ensure precious documents or artifects will not get stolen
In times like that, i would defend my parents as they are the ones who raised me up and protected me. They are always supporting me and although they are naggy sometimes, i know that whatever they do is for my own good. They defended me and now i shall defend them.
I strongly disagree with what Guan Wei had said about defending his belongings. I do not believe that his family, who took care of him from young, could be less important than his phone. Although family comes first, electronic devices such as radios and handphone are also important as they give information on the outside world.
Hi, my name is Galvin Koh If there was something to choose to protect, it would surely be my family. Without my family I do not exist and I wont hold value to this world. Without my family I would not be where I am today, living everyday of my life to the fullest. In these few years, I have been brought up and supported, trusted by my beloved ones and also treasured. To me, my family is everything and i believe they feel the same way too. Therefore they even own my life.
Clarence 2c [7] I think that it is most important to protect the young now as they are our future. It is also important to protect the elderly as they are sort of our mentor and are important in our growth due to their high amount of wisdom. We should also protect our family as, well, they are our family!
I disagree with what guan wei said as what for would you protect your belongings if there is no one in the world to share it with?
Towards what Guan Wei said about defending his belongings over his family has shocked me. Family is somethingg so important that I think most people would even sacrifice their own lives for their beloved ones and worst of all it is a worthless handphone. It was our family that brought us up to even hold a handphone. Handphone are only something temporary but family is something you could be with for life. So I think Guan Wei should reconsider for his prioties.
I agree with christopher that my friends understand me more than my parents. They were also there for me when I am down. Sometimes they even understand me more then my parents as we spent more time with each other more.
In the situation whereby I have to defend something, I will choose to defend my family and my friends as in my life, their lives are more important than mine, as if all of them are not around, I will not survive too as I will be too bored and lonely, so I think that we should treasure the times where we can stay with our family or our friends. Liu Xinyang(19) 2c
I agree with GuanWei as that everybody will have their different things which are important to their lives, perhaps his belongings are more important than his family or friends. So I think that it is normal for him to say that. Liu Xinyang(19)2c
Maybe I should re-phrase my sentence. I will protect my family, and my belongings. But my family has a greater priority, as like what some has said they are the ones who raise us up. But communication is equally important as we can tell the others where we are, what has happened and what are we lacking of.
if there is one thing i would choose to protect i would definitely protect my grand parents as they cared for me most when i am feeling sad or unhappy. they are also always there for me when i needed help.Without my grand parents i would not be here today as they
I disagree with KangNgee as he said that he wanted to protect his grandparents most , but if without his great grandparents , he will not have such nice grandparents to take care of him
Hi! I am Michael [12] I would protect my family as it is the most important. Without them there wouldn't be me. Family is the most important in this world and we cannot live without it.
Hello. I am Yuankai. (4) I would defend my family members as they are the most important people in my life. Especially my parents, as they are the ones who brought me up when i was a baby till now. If not for them, I would not have been what I am today. Next, my siblings and I grew up in the same family since we were young. We played together, went through many problems that my family faced. If I were given another choice, I would save my friends too.
I also disagree with Guanwei as what he has just said on this blog makes people feel that he was raised up for nothing but a handphone. A handphone is useful in real life for getting informations around the world and communicating, it is never more important than one's family or homeland. One's parents are special as they brought him/her up, provided him/her with education, food, environment and housing, which includes owning a any electrical devices or gadgets.
i would defend my family members because they brought me us from my time of birth and the way i become. My life is filled with happiness with them and without, my life would be incomplete. We should treasure our loved ones as we will not live forever and we would be separated one day. We should take care of our parents when they are old as they have taken care of us when we were young and be respectful to them. I would also defend my country as Singapore is my country and we need to protect its from attackers. Although Singapore may be a dot in the world map, we are strong if we unite together and are able to overcome any difficultly. Lastly, I would like to protect my friends as they are the ones we play with, work with, eat with, and study together.
Low San Zeng (21) I agree with Clarence that it is most important to protect the young now as they are the ones to lead us towards prosperity and growth. Without them, no one would be able to success in the future and Singapore will start to collapse and fall. I also agree with Clarence that it is also important to protect the elderly. The elderly are the *lead goose* and will leaders the juniors. They can provides us with guides and advices about what we should do if we faced difficulties. Without them, no one would know what to do and the country will collapse.
Hello. I am Ian. (13) I would strive to protect aand defend my family, my friends, and the young.I would strive to defend my family because they are my closest kin. My family provided me with warmth and confort, as well as a place to rest. A family supports each other. I would strive to protect my friends because friends are supposed to protect and encourage each other. If I friends do not look out for one another, they would not be true friends. Moreover, my friends have common interests and understanding as me. Lastly, I would protect the young because they are future leaders, future enterprenuers. As Singapore is in an aging population, young people are very important to continue in out striving for progress and prosperity.
I agree with Low San Zeng (21) that we should treasure our loved ones as we would not live forever and will be seperated with them one day. As it is inevitable that we would die one day, we should treasure our loved ones and every time we have with them before our time comes.

ReplyDeleteOpinion on "Sales of CCTV cameras, alarms jump
ReplyDeleteMore residents fear crime, loan sharks during tough times"
In my opinion, I think that CCTV cameras are not necessary for residents who do not have infants or elderly with maids alone at home. As Singapore is a small country, cases of burglary can be solved with the efficiency of our police force. Moreover, prices of such devices are costly, and average income families will not be able to afford them. However, CCTV cameras in commercial buildings and offices are needed for security purposes. Companies can afford the cost of CCTV cameras.
-Done by Ian Poar Chye An (13)
Installing cameras are useful in the sense that they can capture the images of the criminals that commit a robbery in a shop, or on the streets.

ReplyDeleteIn any country, an economic downturn results in a loss of jobs nation-wide and thus a decrease in income.

ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that such methods to decrease the amount of crimes in a city is useful.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are some disadvantages to installing such surveillance cameras.
Done by-Terry Ng (23)
ReplyDeleteWhat are the advantages of CCT surveillance?
ReplyDeleteThe CCT surveillance can observe people in the streets 24 hours a day.

ReplyDeleteThe primary uses for CCTV systems are surveillance, traffic control; identification, to prevent theft, shoplifting and employee theft.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrew that CCT surveillance can help reduce the risks of crimes in Sinagapore. Public places like shopping centres, offices and commercial buildings may step up on their security. However I feel that the idea of observing people in the streets 24 hours a day is blown out of proportion. We have police patrols in the neighbourhood and police posts are located conveniently in each estate.
ReplyDeleteDone By Ian Poar Chye An
I think that installing CCTVs in Singapore is a rather good yet bad idea.
ReplyDeleteBut it is bad, because there is a huge intrusion of privacy. Who likes to get watch wherever they go, and every single action is observed by someone. So, when CCTVs are installed, people might get disturbed as people do not like to be watched. So, installing CCTVs have both Pros and Cons.
By: Kenneth Ong 14.
Yes, Singapore should step up on installing CCTV surveillance.
ReplyDeleteThere has been an increase in the number of crimes during the past 2 years.
-Done by Shaun Loh (20)
There are many advantages installing CCTV surveillance.
ReplyDeleteCCTV surveillance can provides the police with evidence that would not be available otherwise.
Done by- Alan Chan (03)
I agree with Kenneth that CCTV has pros and cons. Mostly, the advantages are the increased security, as the police cannot possibly be combing the whole of Singapore around the clock. CCTV also enables us to track down the features of criminals easily to make the case easier for the police. However, it may be an intrusion of privacy as our movements are under observation every minute of the day. So CCTV is not a definite “good” suggestion to prevent crime though it has more advantages then disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shaun that Singapore should step on CCTV surveillance.
ReplyDeleteThus, I feel that Singapore should step up on installing CCTV surveillance.
ReplyDeleteCCTV surveillance might make people feel uncomfortable because it invades their privacy.

ReplyDeleteComment to Shao Wei:
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shao Wei that an economic downturn results in a loss of jobs nation-wide and thus a loss of income, and making people desperate to get money in a wrong way.

ReplyDeleteI think that installing cameras in the streets of New York City is a very good idea and it may help in preventing and reducing the amount of crimes taking place in New York. The offenders will think twice before acting as their faces may be caught on the cameras and they will be spotted easily. The crime rates will decrease drastically if more cameras are installed. The intrusion of privacy is not the main problem as the cameras are used for security purposes.
ReplyDeleteDone by: Ang Xiang Jing (2)
ReplyDeleteDone by: Ang Xiang Jing (2)
The advantage:
ReplyDeleteI think that the installation of Close Circuit Televisions (CCTV) is a very wise idea to aid policemen and detectives in arresting criminals. The installation of CCTVs is sure to help decrease the amount of crime rate. However, low crime doesn't mean no crime. There may be blind spots that can still post a threat to the citizens. By installing CCTVs, criminals could be catch with proof.
The disadvantage:
With the advancement of technology, there are many hackers that lurks among us.

Q2) More residents use fake CCTVs to deter crime
ReplyDeleteThe main reason of the plunging number of robbery and theft cases is due to global recession.
The advantages of having a dummy CCTV:
- Cheaper than a real CCTV and requires less work to install.
The disadvantages of having a dummy CCTV:
- It cannot work like a real CCTV.

Q2)
ReplyDeleteWhile there are pros, there would be cons, firstly:Having a CCTV would inform people that there is something valuable in the shpo and thats why there are installing it.Obviously with a CCTV, they would have lesser worries .
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI totally disagree with Serge as he said that hackers would hack into the CCT surveillance cameras and delete data of their information and their whereabouts.
ReplyDeleteI think that the advantages of having CCTV are just like what the straits times had mentioned, preventing more crimes and loan sharks harassment cases.
ReplyDeleteDone By : Teo Beng Kuan (33) 2 CHARLES~
My opinion on "Big Brother Will Be Watching You".
ReplyDeleteThe advantages of CCT surveillance is that it allows robbers and burglars to be on their guard and to think twice before doing a crime.

Tay Zhi Ming
ReplyDeleteDone by: Nicholas Teo (24)
Firstly the disadvantages for installing CCTV are the cost and violating other's privacy. There are many advantages to installing CCTV. By installing CCTV, it can instill fear in burglars and thieves. As the economy in Singapore now is very bad. The number of crime rate will tend to increase and cause more breaking in to happen. Therefore, I think that installing CCTVs would be appropriate if the owner can afford to help assist the Singapore Police.
ReplyDeleteImagine a scenario where there is no CCTV fixed outside a person's house.
Done by: Tay Jia Wei (30)
ReplyDeleteWhen CCTV are installed all over the streets, every corner, ever place is under observation, will you feel that it is an invasion of privacy?
- Zhao Wei (5)
I agree with what Zhao Wei had said on the Dummy CCTVs as it is a rather good idea on tricking the robbers into thinking that either all of the CCTVS are dummy, or all the CCTVs are real. So if Dummy CCTVS are installed, we get the best of both world,
ReplyDeleteOne is that there would not be too much intrustion of privacy and the residents would not feel watched.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, I do not agree with a statement Hanyu said when he agreed with Kenneth's post.

ReplyDeleteCCTV surveillance is essential as it serves as a reminder to those who want to commit crimes. CCTV can also be installed in public places like the shopping malls where most shoplifting take place because of too many people and are unattentive to their belongings. It can also ensure that Singapore is a safe country for everyone to live in.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteReal CCTVs can prevent crime and help in investigations with footage of suspects.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Raymond that people are inattentive to their belongings as they think that Singapore is a safe place to live in. To prevent more crimes from happening, people should install CCTVs to let the robbers think twice before they act. People should be more attentive to their belongings so that their belongings will not get stolen so easily and should also think that although Singapore is a safe place to live in, it would never be a country free from theft.

ReplyDeleteI agree with agree with Kenneth that CCTV surveillance has both advantages and disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteMany installed Closed-circuit television (CCTV) in their household for crime prevention and monitoring purposes. For example, installing CCTV at your door along the corridor. This is to prevent or lower the rate of committed crimes such as burglaries, pranks, theft, etc. The government also installed CCTV in public such as the shopping centers, train stations and others. This is to prevent terrorism and to for security purposes.
ReplyDeleteWhen CCTVs are installed everywhere, we would feel that our privacy is being intruded. When every movement that we make and everything that we do is being closely observed, we would definitely feel uneasy especially when we can clearly identify the CCTVs instead of not knowing when are the hidden CCTV cameras.
Done By: Heng Jun Jie
I agree with Heng Jun Jie that with a CCTV the crime rate would drop. However later he said that privacy would be intruded. I beg to differ as for privacy, the government has all our documents and information does it mean that our privacy is still the same? Next he said that not knowing where the CCTV is basically more of a physological issue rather than a physical one.
ReplyDeleteDone by Michael Ho 12
CCTVs can prevent crimes and terrorism. However, it does not give people much privacy, as the police will track every movement and knows where somebody is, and what they are doing. Despite all this, I think that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance in the streets and dummy CCTVs in HDB flats. I feel that there is a small price to pay to prevent terrorism and crimes, however, when the number of crimes goes down, installing CCTVs would be worth it.
ReplyDeleteDone by Lee Shang Jun Xavier (16)

ReplyDeleteThe advantages of using CCTV is that you can prevent crimes like thefts, vandalism, robberies, etc. from happening.
ReplyDeleteDone by Low San Zeng(21) 2 Charles
ReplyDeleteThere are also disadvantages of having the CCT surveillance.

ReplyDeleteI agree with William that guards will sleep on the job but the CCTVs do not. For example, a security guard fell asleep at night and a burglar manage to get into the house estate. The next day, one person's house got broken in and the guard has no idea. This is where the help from the CCTV comes in. I believe that installing CCTV is a very essential thing.
ReplyDeleteTay Jia Wei (30)
I agreee with ZiHao that Singapore should step up on CCTV surveillance desptie the fact that Singapore have a lower crime rate than New York.Through many recordings of CCTV, the police have solved many cases of crimes.
ReplyDeleteFor example, if a person commits a crime and then was at first judged as innocent while the victim was judged as guilty, who would know the real truth? But with the recording of CCTV, we can know exactly what have happen and justice could be done.
Yam Jianwen (37)
I agree with what SanZeng said. CCTV needs a lot of manpower and electricity. Having the CCTV on for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week consumed a lot of electricity. With not only 1 CCTV, the electricity consumed is heavily multiplied. However, this is totally needed to prevent crimes and collect information.
ReplyDelete25 June 2009
Tay zhi Ming
There are a lot of advantages in using the CCTV. The advantage of the CCTV would be that it is always functioning and can be placed in almost everywhere whereas the guards might just sleep on the job. The CCTV also provides a very good drop in the number of crimes as the camera can catch any robberies or crimes anywhere at anytime. It is on surveillance 24 hours a day without failing and it is also easier to start up and fix, rather than to train up or teach a person on security training. Increasing the number of CCTV will help in decreasing the number of crimes and let people think twice about committing a crime.
ReplyDeleteDarrell Teo(34)
I agree with what zihao said. The number of crimes will be lowered when there is somebody monitoring. Everybody will think twice in committing crime as the CCTV will captured the whole process and thus, help in aiding investigation and evidence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Darrell said. Guards might sleep during the job and allowing crime to take place during the time they are asleep. However, if there are CCTVs, criminal acts can be capture as proof. Even if they are able to escape, there is evidence and the police can carry on looking for the those who are responsible for those acts.
ReplyDeleteLau Yu Serge (15)
I disagree with what San Zeng said as guards need not have to monitor the CCTVs 24/7 as they will record the activities in an area. Even if there is a crime going on and the Guards happen not to see it, the police can still refer to the recorded video clip which can be an evidence to catch the criminal.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what ZiHao had said.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?
ReplyDeleteThe CCTV are useful as it can be used to capture images so that we can prevent many criminal cases to happen .
Although some may felt that their privacy is being intrude but since the device is used for security purposes, people will adapt it in time
ReplyDeleteI agree with San Zeng that large amount of electricity and manpower will be consumed. If the CCTV was on 24 hours everyday, there will be a huge increase in the usage of electricity of the household. But if dummy CCTV could be used, the electricity usage will decrease. This will also prevent crimes and people will think hard before committing crimes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with kenneth that installing CCTV has its own advantages and disadvantages. Installing a CCTV can help greatly in reducing the amount of crimes in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time, installing a CCTV is also a bad idea as it makes people feel that they have no privacy at all.
ReplyDeleteBryan Tay(31)

ReplyDeleteI agree that putting the CCTV had really decrease the number of cases of robbery and had really assisted the police in helping to find the culprit .
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bryan for his comments on the usefulness of the CCTV. It really serve a good role for many people. As for what he said , he asked if life or privacy was more important, I would really choose life though it disturb our privacy. Of course, the best is if someone could invent stuff that would help us and do not disturb our privacy .
ReplyDeletei do not agree with Darrell that the CCTV would be that it is always functioning and can be placed in almost everywhere whereas the guards might just sleep on the job. The criminals may be able to hack into the CCTV and cut off the power supply of it. By doing this, they can be able to break into people's houses and steal their valuables and leave before the owners awake. By putting up a CCTV outside a house, the burglars will know that there are valuables items inside the house.
ReplyDeleteDone by Low San Zeng (21)
I disagree with Qi Han that CCTV will prevent accidents from happening at all. We humans are prone to making mistakes and an accident is very likely to happen. On the contrary, people who might be speeding and see the CCTV might try to slow down and therefore in the process, slamming down on the brakes and crash into the person in front. This is also one of the many reasons why accidents happen.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there are many advantages of the CCT surveillance.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?
ReplyDeleteThe major advantage is that it protects the people living in the area and by putting these cameras it makes the criminals think twice before they want to steal or do anything illegal. Another advantage of installing this cameras is that it if there is anyone badly injured and there is no one in the area, the person injured may be seen from the cameras and a ambulance or some help maybe sent to save the person.
-Done by,
Galvin Koh (9)
I disagree about what Zi Hao said as i personally think that Singapore is a small country and the police does patrol around the country. Singapore does not have a lot of break-ins as housing estates have neighbours and if a break in were to occur, the neighbours would be alarmed and people would say they may break in in the day when all is at work or at night when all is sleeping but actually there are housewives that stay at home in the day and at night even if there are cameras, the person must be smart enough to wear a mask when he is doing a break in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bryan that the robbers would think twice before breaking in to your house as they were afraid of being caught by the police. Bryan asked whether life or privacy was more important, I would choose life as nothing is more important then your own life during that crucial time.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the advantages of CCTV?
ReplyDeleteWith the help of CCTV, we can catch criminals in action.Upon seeing the CCTV, criminals may think twice before attempting to commit a crime. Installing CCTVs have been a great help to police. With it, police have managed to solve many cases of crimes with CCTV as the evidence. The CCTV never lies.
But sometimes, it may cause certain discomfort to people
What are the advantages of CCT surveillance?
ReplyDeleteThe main advantage is that CCT surveillance is its effectiveness in preventing crimes that involve breaking and entering.

ReplyDeleteQuite recently, my family was one of the victims.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Christopher as that putting the CCTV had really decrease the number of cases of robbery and had really assisted the police in helping to find many culprits, as till now, it had prevented robberies and theft crimes from happening so often as in the old times. Thirdly, it could use as a proof to fight against cases for the lawyers. It would really serve a great purpose.

ReplyDeleteI just want to make a few comments on Guanwei's post.

At a young age, they have started to teach me many things in life and watched me grow up after all these years. They gave me all that I need and did not complain about anything. I would want to be a man useful in society and not let my parents down.

My family encourages and praises me when I do well, gives me support when I fail. They provide everything I needed when I was young and gave warmth and a sense of home in my house. Secondly my family has always been the one sheltering and protecting me. It will be my duty to protect them when that time comes. Did your handphone protected and raise you up?
Hi, Serge is here once more...
ReplyDeleteI agree fully with Ze Chuan. Phones and computers are materialistic things. Family cannot be replaced unlike phones and computers. They provided us with whatever we need and protected us when we were young. They love us so much that they are willing to give up their lives in exchange for the safety of us. We should do the same in return for their kindness and be filial to them.

ReplyDeleteThe most important thing in my life would be my family and friends.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing in my live is my family, therefore, I would defend them if they are in danger or in time of crisis like in war or riots so on so fore(touch wood)as they are and will always be the closest to me and the only people i can really trust. They would encourage and help me whenever and always when i need help.
Hello, I am Tay Zhi Ming.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what Shao Heng have said.
I am Lee Shang Jun Xavier (16)
ReplyDeleteI would defend my family and my friends, because without them, I would not be what I am today.

ReplyDeleteI really do not understand why belongings are most important to you, since you understand that your family are the ones who helped you through difficulties. You could always put a price on a belonging but can you put any price on your family?
Hi I am John Lim (17)
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing that I would defend in times of threat or crisis is my family members as well as friends. This is because they were the ones who raised me up and created this wonderful life for me. They were the ones who also taught me knowledgeable things and helped me when I needed help. I would also defend my country as it gave me a wonderful home to live in all these years.
Hi again, I am John Lim (17)
ReplyDeleteTo Guan Wei:
I disagree with your comment because I think family members and friends is more important than a non-living cell-phone.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with what Xavier has said.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing that I would defend in times of threat or crisis is of course my family and friends. Although some time i dislike what my parents had did to me or what they hand done for me but after all they are still my parents, so it is our duty to protect them no matter how hard it is or how difficult it is. As for friends they have been always be to there to support me and help me therefor if there is really a war, i will also protect my friends as they had done a lot for me
Hi again, I am Sun Qi Nan
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with what Zhang Zi Hao said.
Hi, I am Alan Chan (03)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely defend my family as they are part of my life.

HI! I am Edmund Mong (8),
ReplyDeleteI would definitely defend my family members because they are my priority.
My comment to Guan Wei:
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your post because family members should be your priority when war comes. What is the point of living when you have all your physical personal belongings but lose your family members?
Edmund Mong (8) 2C
Hi I am Heng Jun Jie
ReplyDeleteMy family member is my first priority and that is why I would choose to defend them.

Hi I am Heng Jun Jie
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shao Wei's post of defending family members. Family should be at the top priority of your life as they provide you with your needs and fulfill them for you. They are also the only people that have watch you grow up and the for me, I would put my family members as the first priority and defend them
Hi! I am Lim Yi Foong (18)
ReplyDeleteI would defend my family members as well as my loved ones as they cannot be replaced. Family members are the closest people in my life and I cannot live without them. They love me very much and I have spent 9-10 months in my mother's womb. If I were to choose, I would put my family members on top of myself, putting them in the first place.
Hi! I am Lim Yi Foong (18)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Qi Nan that although we dislikes what our parents do to us, like disciplining us physically and mentally, I think that what is most important to have a happy family is that we must be able to communicate with one another so as to minimizing misunderstandings
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Kenneth Ong (14)
ReplyDeleteAnd the thing that I would defend most is my family, although a lot of people had commented on it, but I want to emphasis, that family is very important to us. They have used their care, love, concern, time, money, to try and make me have a complete family. They gave me love, gave me joy, made me feel part of them, made me feel welcomed, made me had a sense of belonging, me me feel warm. They are always there, no matter the situation.
Hi, my name is Kenneth Ong (14)
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with what Yifoong said that we are the closest with our parents , cause we have spent 9-10 months in our mother's womb, hence we would naturally be closer as we had lived in the womb of our mother's womb. And they also loved us so much. Why we cannot defend them.
Hi, I am Chin Zhao Wei (5)
ReplyDeleteAt all cost, i would defend my family the most. My family had shown a lot of support for me, especially when i did not do well in test. They had shown care to me by asking me not to be sad when i failed my examination. they made me feel that i am important. They are there for me, in every situation
Hi, I am Raymond Boey (26)
ReplyDeleteIn this kind of situation,I would surely defend my family the most as they are the top priority . My family had given me a lot of care and love for me. Without my family support, I would have felt lonely by myself. They are also the ones for take care of me that can help me to grow up and develop. Then I would like to defend my own country as without a country, i wouldn't have felt a sense of home.
Hi, I am Raymond Boey (26)
ReplyDeleteI strongly disagree with what guan wei had posted. In this kind of situation, family is the most important thing as they no matter what had happened to us, our family would encourage and support us. They are also the ones who brought us up for so many years and we should think of them before thinking of other things as family members safety are the top priority.
Hi, my name is Tan Kang Ngee
ReplyDeleteI feel that cctv is important to ensure the safety of the people around us.It can also be used to make sure precious things would not get stolen.
ReplyDeleteNicholas Teo (24)
I strongly disagree with what Guan Wei had said about defending his belongings. I do not believe that his family, who took care of him from young, could be less important than his phone. Although family comes first, electronic devices such as radios and handphone are also important as they give information on the outside world.
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Galvin Koh
ReplyDeleteIf there was something to choose to protect, it would surely be my family.
Clarence 2c [7]
ReplyDeleteI think that it is most important to protect the young now as they are our future.
ReplyDeleteQuek Ding Ren 2C[25]
ReplyDeleteIn this kind of situation, i will protect my family first as they are the ones who give me support and shown me care when i was unhappy.
Quek Ding Ren 2C[25]
ReplyDeleteI agree with christopher that my friends understand me more than my parents.
ReplyDeleteLiu Xinyang(19) 2c
I agree with GuanWei as that everybody will have their different things which are important to their lives, perhaps his belongings are more important than his family or friends. So I think that it is normal for him to say that.
ReplyDeleteLiu Xinyang(19)2c
Maybe I should re-phrase my sentence. I will protect my family, and my belongings. But my family has a greater priority, as like what some has said they are the ones who raise us up. But communication is equally important as we can tell the others where we are, what has happened and what are we lacking of.
ReplyDeletehi i am Tan Kang Ngee[29]
ReplyDeleteif there is one thing i would choose to protect i would definitely protect my grand parents as they cared for me most when i am feeling sad or unhappy. they are also always there for me when i needed help.Without my grand parents i would not be here today as they
I disagree with KangNgee as he said that he wanted to protect his grandparents most , but if without his great grandparents , he will not have such nice grandparents to take care of him
ReplyDeleteXinyang (19)2c
Hi! I am Michael [12]
ReplyDeleteI would protect my family as it is the most important. Without them there wouldn't be me. Family is the most important in this world and we cannot live without it.
Hello. I am Yuankai. (4)
ReplyDeleteI would defend my family members as they are the most important people in my life.
ReplyDeleteLow San Zeng (21)
ReplyDeletei would defend my family members because they brought me us from my time of birth and the way i become.
Low San Zeng (21)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Clarence that it is most important to protect the young now as they are the ones to lead us towards prosperity and growth.
Hello. I am Ian. (13)
ReplyDeleteI would strive to protect aand defend my family, my friends, and the young.I would strive to defend my family because they are my closest kin.
